London Weekly Prayer Focus: Mon 6 July 20. Over the weekend, a man in his 20s was shot and killed beside a playground in Islington and yesterday in Enfield, another shooting at a Toby Carvery left a man in his 50s fighting for his life. The prevalence of street parties has reduced although there was serious disruption involving riot police on Friday night in White City, W12 at a block party. Central London was busy but calm as people returned to pubs with the easing of lockdown.
With the easing of restrictions and uncertainty for many workers I was reminded of Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no progressive revelation the people cast off restraint.” We need to pray for clear direction and sense of purpose for those unsure about their working situation, for young people whose schooling is interrupted and for leaders unsure how to navigate the new political, economic and social landscape.
Father, let your light of revelation shine to illuminate the path before us as a city, and for individuals making decisions about their future. Help business leaders know how to respond to challenging conditions, investments and borrowing. Help communities have a vision of a better city and work together to achieve that, direct politicians on how to plan for tomorrow’s needs as well as having solutions for today’s intractable problems. May your Church, Lord, speak with a clear voice to bring the truth of Your Word into our city and bring the light of revelation and the knowledge of God to everyone who would throw of restraint at this time. As we emerge from lockdown, may London resound with words that speak of hope and a good future. Amen
